Our music video featured an indie rock song along with a moderately dark yet simple concept. The video itself originally featured 4 set ups, but due to time issues we had to cut out one of them.
The day before we spent a few hours setting up the black slides that we would use to create the walls of the corridor, there were six in total at the process of putting them together had it's difficulties but it didn't take too long. Also during that day we had to take down and set up our set, in order to do that we had to carefully remove the previous black flats and then roll out another roll of white floor, for our surroundings we used a black curtain so that wasn't too difficult to set up. Also on the day we had to set the drum kit and microphone stand up this process was easy and didn't take too long.
Apon waking up on the morning of the shoot I felt nervous and excited. But also I felt slightly stressed as I had to be on time to school so that my group and I could get filming as early as possible.
When starting shooting we had a major setback in that the lighting was not ready and we lost a big chunk out of our day setting up what lighting we needed to go where, it was quite a stressful moment and I felt everyone getting more and more fed up.
The set looked very good once we started to shoot, it was just as we had imagined it to be and just as we had planned, however if I could have made one request it would be for the white floor to have been kept in better condition since there were a few dirt marks that you couldn't get off.
Personally I feel as if I gave the camera operator some very good advice, since when filming a completely hand held take they didn't seem to be catching key moments, for example focusing on the wrong instrument so I advised them to try and hear the music and what can be heard. This ended up giving us some really good shots that would come to be very useful.
On the shoot day we had a big issue with time and we weren't certain if we were going to be able to use all of 4 of our sets since taking one set down and putting up another, in order to solve it we thought it would be best to cut out using one of the sets, we chose one that involved a confined room since we thought it would be simple to achieve the same effect with the set that involved a corridor.
I feel as if the section of the shoot that involved a hand held shot filming down a corridor could have gone better as I felt it looked a bit too shaking and wasn't very still. Perhaps if we had had someone a bit stronger operate the camera tings would have gone better.
I feel as if we treated our actors well, if we felt there was going to be a bit of a holdup then we told them they could take a break, and if we sensed that one of them was getting slightly tired then we said it would be alright for them to get a drink. No one had any fallings out with the actors and each and every one of them were very cooperative.
Overall I enjoyed going into Guildford later that night and taking photos, as it was fun to run around holding lights as it felt very professional. But also I enjoyed working with the strobe lights as it made the room look insane and although it was rather headache inducing it looked really cool.
As the editor of the video I'm looking forward to editing the guitar solo as I feel I can go crazy with that and make it look really cool, plus it was my favourite part of the song to listen to.
I feel as there was definitely more space for teamwork when working on the set, for example some more light holding contribution when in Guildford, or when on set if some people could have been more engaged that would have been helpful.
From that shoot day I felt as if, if I were to shoot another music video I would definitely plan the lighting in advance as that set us back by a huge amount, plus I would make a more believable time schedule since we had a lot of time in Guildford when running around so could have easily used that time to film the fourth set up.
I don't feel as if any changed are needed to be made to our website or artwork as our set up was exactly the concept we were looking for however if one change needed to be made we would probably like to include more shades of colour as the band members were dressed in brighter colours than we though, for example the drummer in a red flannel shirt.
